In my hypothesis we were not correct. We predicted that we would be able to contain and absorb 80% of the oil but we ended up exceeding our goal as we contained over 90% as we estimate. The material that worked the best containing the oil was by far the spoon it was able to group all the oil into one area of the wash bin which made our job much easier moving around the oil with ease and in the end it helped because all the oil was concentrated in one spot instead of around the whole wash bin. The best material at absorbing the oil is by far is the cotton balls, they were able to pick up massive amounts of oil at one time, and while doing this it also picked up very little water. Another reason why the cotton balls were so good is because they were very efficient given the size of them. The least effective material was the paper towel. The reasons for this is because it was very incapable at containing the oil in one spot not only was it inefficient in moving the oil but while we were trying to is would absorb a lot of water. Another flaw in the paper towels was that while trying to absorb the oil, it began absorbing more water then oil. If I was able to re-do this experiment I would change one thing. The thing I would change is that i would use dish soap instead of the paper towels because the dish soap could separate the oil from the water, thus making it easier to clean.
