Conclusion
In this experiment I believe that we were successful overall in containing and absorbing the oil spill. In the end our hypothesis was not supported, but this was not a bad thing because we ended up underestimating ourselves and absorbing an estimated 90% of the oil then from our original hypothesis which we predicted would be 80%. We had many different independent variables including 1 spoon, 1 sponge, 5 paper towels and 10 cotton balls. Out dependent variable was the amount of oil cleaned up, this is because without the cleaning materials then the oil would not have been able to be cleaned up. Finally out controlled variables were the volume of the wash bin, temperature of the water and the density of the oil. In the end I believe that this experiment was and overall success and the materials we used were an overall success except for the paper towels, in that case I would have used the dish soap to separate the oil from the water but aside from that the experiment was a success and went better then we thought it would.
